FAQ with Doc

Is it safe to travel when you have asthma?

Yes, provided your asthma is under good control at the time. When you travel with asthma, you must always remember to take your asthma treatment and asthma devices with you.. Before you travel it is a good idea that your doctor, gives your parents a letter to take with them outlining your asthma treatment. If you are flying, remember to always carry your medication as hand luggage, just in case your suitcase gets lost! Always have your reliever medication in your hand luggage when travelling. It is a good idea for your parents to know where the nearest medical facility is located at your destination. Your parents should ensure your travel insurance includes medical cover.

Prior to travelling, it is a good idea to have your asthma reviewed with your doctor and an asthma management plan completed which will inform you and your parents of the following points:

• Daily medications and when to take them
• How to recognise signs that your asthma is getting worse and what to do
• What to in the event of an asthma attack
