Are some asthma drugs banned in athletic competitions?
There are some drugs banned in athletic competitions, these are a type of steroid that people take to make their muscles bigger. These steroids are not the same as the steroids that are in your inhaler.
The steroids in your inhaler are safe and work very well.
If a person with asthma in taking part in professional competitions they will need to get a special note from their doctor to say that they need the inhalers for their asthma.
The Irish Sports Council’s website has a list of all the medications that are banned in competitions and a list of medications that a person needs a special note signed by their doctor for.
If you are taking part in any professional competitions you should get your parents or coach to look at the website to see if any of your medication needs a note from your doctor.
