What is Asthma

Airways are a series of tubes that carry air in and out of the lungs The symptoms of asthma occur because the airways in the lung are inflamed and become too narrow to allow air pass in and out easily. During an asthma attack 3 things happen that make the airway walls narrow.

1. Muscle Spasm
The muscle in the wall of the airway tightens up. This squeezes the airway wall inwards and narrows the side of the tube through which the air passes.

2. Inflammation
The tissue in the airway wall swells up. This reduces the size of the air tube.

3. Mucus Secretion
The swollen airway produces large quantities of sticky mucus.

Always carry your Reliever Inhaler with you at all times.
